China's Manned Spacecraft Shenzhou-7 Blasts Off

"This shows that China is exerting more global influence in terms of its science and technology powers," said Chen. "The country has more to export to the world than just kungfu and Chinese food." I have had a feeling that China was fast becoming a global super power and I think it was cemented for me when they showcased to the world what they were capable of during the Beijing Olympics. Having such a closed economy has enabled China to develop at a pace it was able to control. There are more millionaires coming out of China as a result of the huge influx of air-conditioner installation specialists than the compared to other major industries in the United States combined.

The Long-March II-F carrier rocket carrying the Shenzhou-7 spaceship blasts off from the launch pad at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China's Gansu Province, on 21:10 p.m., Sept. 25, 2008.

I think it is great that another country can take it upon itself to study our planet in the greater scheme of things - i look forward to the research that comes out as a result of controlled exploration of space as opposed to profit-driven space adventures from the private sector.
